I want to create a website for myself. where is a good place to buy domain names?

Question: I want to create a website for myself. where is a good place to buy domain names?

(Posted by: RIP Ajay on 2008-07-24 08:07:50)

Someone told me www.godaddy.com and buy through them. If I do, when I buy my own website, can I format website to my kinda standards and not have any godaddy advertisements on it? I don't want to have any advertisements on it. Also, if I decide that i don't want it, can I cancel and stop my website, or buy it from someone else instead of godaddy.com (say if I get annoyed with all the ads from godaddy.com) Please help - I have never created a website before and am new to this. Thanks in advance :- )

Ok you say you want to create your own site and buy your on domain so first of all you will need money, second godaddy.com has nothing to do with your website i mean you can buy your domain from godaddy site but godaddy.com wont put any ads on the site as godaddy is only providing the domain. after you get the domain, you will need hosting. Now depending on your hosting, you may have ads on your site. most payed hosting keep your site ad free so that depends on your hosting. so there are many hostings out there that you can choose from. one of the cheapest hostings of i know is this website: 3ix.com/ they give you very low cost hosting lots of space to put your contents in so once you get your hosting, you can add the nameserver of your domain to your hosting so your domain redirects to your website. most of it depends on your hosting hope you achieve your goal.

Buying a domain name has no relation to the advertisements on your website. the domain name, ie yourdomain.com, points to where you host your site on the web. When you buy a domain you have complete rights to it and redirect it to whichever web host you want. I bought my domain names from godaddy.com. I heard that 1and1.com is good for web hosting. If you're paying a web host, you shouldn't be getting ads on your website, that's only for free webhosting.

My husband and I use homestead.com as our site builder. If you choose not to buy a domain name your site address will be (you choose).homestead.com but you can also buy your domain name through homestead and upload it directly to that site. I am not sure about the advertisement situation as we have never purchased the domain name through them and have just kept the default (example is my site mrspetrony.homestead.com) since we are not using it for business purposes. If you go to homestead.com, I am sure you could find some answers! I hope this helps, good luck.

A very good and reliable domain host would be Go Daddy. Their service is cheap and extremely well kept. To start out they have extremely good packages and help to get your website off the ground.

Go daddy. Most limit you a lot and haste you if you change providers.

A domain name and a website are two different things. A domain name is an address to your website. Whereas your website is the content. Thus, when you buy a domain name, you are merely buying the 'address'. To have a website, you need also to get webspace on the internet. And then link the domain name to the webspace. Considering that you're a beginner, I'd suggest that you get free hosting to host your website. Try freehostia.com . I've been with them before I switched to paid hosting. Thereafter, link your domain name to freehostia's servers by configuring the nameservers. It's really simple. If you need help you can check with either freehostia or your domain name registrar. Also, about domain names. I'd suggest that you get your domain names from a registrar that provides a free privacy service. This privacy service shields your personal information like your home address and phone number from the WHOIS database. Here are some reliable registrars that provide such a service for free: - moniker.com - name.com - namecheap.com I have had domains with them before. I hope this helps. And all the best.
