Completed (it'll cost me a few hundred dollars), what other fees (if any) are incurred? Do I have to pay the same amount each year (etc.)? Thanks. RE: Brian It is a .com and I know I have to pay. But my question is this: after paying for it (like I said, it'll cost me a few hundred dollars - but it's worth it for me, personally), what other fees are there? Do I have to pay the same amount every year or is it something cheaper like $15?

Generally if you are buying a domain name that someone has already registered then there is a one time fee to buy the name and then you are responsible to renew the name each year. How much the renewal fee is depends on who the registrar is and what they charge for a renewal. You can transfer the domain name registrar to pretty much any registrar either at time of purchase or later on (there are some restrictions). The current owner may already have registered for more than one year (up to 10 years) in which case you wouldn't have to pay renewal fee til current registration expires. A WHOIS search will tell you when the expiration date is but the seller can provide the info you need. Some domain investors "lease " domain names for a monthly or annual term. Make sure that you are buying the name.

Well it depends on what you want your domain name to be. If you want it to be a .com, then you will have to pay. But there are several servers where you can post your website for free. Why spend the money? However, your domain will not be a .com. Say if you post your website on Weebly. The domain would be domain.weebly.com. Here is a list of free servers. weebly.com wix.com webs.com webon.com webnode.com blinkweb.com If you're talking about pasting a code to a server, you can do that as well in each of these.
