How to develop a commercial website of own domain name?

Question: How to develop a commercial website of own domain name?

(Posted by: Ash on 2010-03-14 21:58:02)

Quite many times I have worked with making own website free made available by many web portals. But now I want to develop website of my own with my chosen domain name and space. However I don’t know much about it. Though I know how to design pages in designing software, I want to learn about converting it into web page and uploading or hosting the website and making it available for the people. Here I simply want to know about developing static pages. Kindly explain me the entire procedure right from getting domain names. Also If I need to undergo some sort of training at any institute, then please let me know what are the various things that I should learn so that I become well- verse with all sorts of website development matters. I look forward to receiving thorough infomration from you all.

If you want a real website with your own domain name first you have to get hosting (which also includes a domain name). As for the design of your website, the easiest way to start right away would be to use their web builder to create your website and just change the graphics using your favorite designing software and then learn HTML and CSS so you can build your website from scratch. Or you can use a web designing software like Dreamweaver. For hosting I recommend one of these: tophostingpicks.com iPage has the best offer right now. Their standard price is $84/ year ($6.95) but they have a 50% sale, one year of hosting for $42.00. Their plan includes: Unlimited disk space Unlimited bandwidth Free domain name Price: $42/ year ($3.50) They have one of the most popular hosting platforms, which currently hosts over a million websites. They're also one of the oldest hosting companies, founded in 1998. They include a free point & click online site builder so you can create a website without any programming (easily, just by drag and drop) or you could install Wordpress (they include easy, one click install from their control panel), choose a theme that you like, and start adding content. They also have a great custom control panel with OneClick installs of all the popular software like Wordpress, Joomla, Forums, Chat, Galleries, Online stores and a lot more.

Well first of all you have to have a plan. If you take the time to sit down and plan your website in advance you will know the target audience you want to go for, the phrases they type in the search box, what their computer skills are, what they expect from your site, what hosting requirements you need, etc. Your domain name needs to be something easy to remember but also search engine friendly (unless you have a budget to market an unusual name in other areas). Sounds like you are talking about designing your web page(s) in a graphics program like Photoshop. Photoshop, for example, does have an export function once you slice and dice the design. However, there is a better way to do this. Using your graphic as a guide, you can just create images for the actual graphics portions of your design then use HTML and CSS to replicate the rest of the colours and formatting. Search engines don't read images (yet) so if you just slice and dice your design and put it up as is you are not going to do well in the search engines as they do not have anything to read. From your graphic lay up of the page you can make yourself a template of the typical parts of the page. These typical parts can be inserted with SSI (server side includes) so if you want to update them it's easier than opening every page and making changes. You also should learn to use an external stylesheet. This also makes updating all the pages on the site much easier. The w2schools website is a very good place for tutorials on (X)HTML and CSS.

Ok. I own a business that sells websites with over 250 000 customers. rabbitdomains.net have the cheapest prices. 1. Make sure you have saved your html 2. In your control panel, go to file manager, and upload your html files. The one you want to create homepage you call index.html (this is what the server looks for). 3. Make sure all images are stored in the folders

Im no expert but I'll share what I know. You will need to get a domain name from a registrar such as godaddy. I got one real cheap for $2/ month. While you're at it, get an SSL certificate if you plan on having any shopping cart or ecommerce. Next, get a good web hosting company. This is the hard part because there are so many. It depends on your needs. Do you care about IPv6? Do you need a database backend (blogging or product catalog)? Microsoft or *nix, ie ASP/ IIS or PHP/ Apache. Do you need mail too or you have own your own mailserver (or a third party eg google apps)? Web design always happen locally on your computer and then you upload it to the server your host has provided to you with an FTP client such as Filezilla for PC or Cyberduck for Mac. In regards to learning, there are too many. And it changes constantly. Start with the basics: HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Good luck.

As you may know a domain name is just a name, not a real website. If you are going to create your website: 1- Buy a domain name. A domain name is a name you want to call your website (ex: yahoo.com). To get a domain name, you have to pay an annual fee to a registrar for the right to use that name. 2- Buy a web hosting service to provide your online space and enable you to get your website online at your purchased domain name. If you want to start your website I recommend purchase your domain and hosting together. In this way it is possible to get your domain for free. Some hosting services offer this gift today. As an experienced webmaster I recommend BH web hosting which I’m sure it would work for you and fulfill all your requirements. They have a really great offer for hosting & I have used them for over 3 yrs now, and have never had a single problem with them. You can reach reviews about this web hosting provider and its latest DISCOUNT COUPONS at: threehosts.com/ reviews/ 1st Only $3.95 / month (with discount coupon). They also offer "Free Site Builder " that helps you build your web pages without difficulty if you are not skilled in using any website creating program (WYSIWYG: What You See Is What You Get). You can use this service optionally. You can also create the pages offline with your favorite program (DreamWeaver, FrontPage, Microsoft Publisher, iWeb etc.), and then upload them to your web host. This is another easy way to get your website online. ******IMPORTANT******** * This service was awarded the “Best Web Hosting OF The Year”. * If you sign up for this service you will have $75 credits to advertise your website with the google & yahoo search engines for free! * You Can Register A Free Domain or Use Your Existing Domains. They Support All Domain Names. **************************** Another useful link: threehosts.com/ build There you can find a step-by-step guide to start your website. Hope this helps.

You can select a domain name and register and then purchase a web hosting plan. I'd recommend Fatcow. Fatcow is a well known website hosting server providing excellent hosting solutions for the past many years. Their features are easy to use even for a novice. When you host your website on any website hosting server, the knowledge on how to manage a hosting server is very handy. But when you use Fatcow you simply need to manage the control panel which is easy to use. The control panel is the best in the industry, Vdeck. If you want to learn more about how the control panel works, you simply can refer to the help pages. > > webhostingbreak.com/ fat-cow-coupon/

It sounds like you are perfectly capable of producing the pages using your design software and so have that on your computer. The next step is to upload those pages to a website. The best way to do this is to open a free hosting account at freewebhosting.comxa.com/ and perhaps use one of the free domain names too, and try it out - free! First, sign up for the account(s) at freewebhosting.comxa.com/ After you have signed up, there will be a page with info on ftp settings etc. Take note of these in case you want to use a ftp client like filezilla. Once you have your account open and the files designed and sitting on your computer, you need to upload the files to your website. They go in the public_html folder. First login to your hosting account. click on the link to cpanel. If you only have a few files, you can use one of the file managers part way down the page. Your username and passwords should follow automatically, if not you can either enter them or go back and try the link again. Put your index.html (ie main page) in the public_html folder. You can also put other files here or in subfolders (typically images are in a subfolder etc). To upload you click on the upload button, choose the file from your computer, then click on the arrow to make it happen. Once it is uploaded, click on the back arrow to see it in the folder. If you have lots of files, it is easier to use ftp. The settings are just next to the file manager. Download and setup filezilla or a similar free ftp client, add the server details from the ftp settings in cpanel and you can upload the files and create the directories from within filezilla. After it is up, check it on several computers to make sure it looks like what you expect.
