Okay, this is a pathetic question because I should know this by now. But, I've always used the internet on college campus, or at work, or lived with someone who already had the internet. So, now I bought my first house and of course I want the internet on my computer and I have no idea how to go about it. My computer is a Dell 8300 desktop. I've been asking around and I have decided to go with AT &T through my home phone landline. I currently don't use a home phone, I use my cell phone as my home phone. I know that there's a landline ready to be used with a phone jack near my computer. When I call AT &T, they'll probably try to sell me more than I need. All I want is highspeed internet access and be able to download minor things, like music and pictures. What specifically do I need for my computer to receive high speed internet? Is there more that I need besides my computer and a phone line connecting it? Any advice would be appreciated. Here is the AT &T website I'm looking at: http:/ / www.att.com/ gen/ general?pid=6431 (I'm asking this from my work computer on my lunch break.) I would prefer not to get cable. |
