If I had 3 buildings on one block and two of them were storing files on a linux server, and the third building?

Is it possible to display Japanese kana/kanji in a console/terminal on Debian Linux?
I don't want to change the system language to Japanese...I just need it to be able to display Japanese so I could read Japanese documentation.I'd prefer it if I could be able to make both the command line console and terminal be able to display Japanese...But one or the other is fine if it's not possible on one for some reason.

What is your favorite Linux and why?
So, I always thought Ubuntu was pretty good and user friendly. I had used backtrack but unfortunately it seems to have a lot of security flaws when I scanned it with Nessus. I was thinking of trying FreeBSD or Gentoo but I haven't done a lot of research for either of them yet. So, any suggestions?
Will Linux make media run faster?
I have an old windows xp computer. Everything runs fine on it except for media games, videos, etc. . Will changing my OS to Linux make all this run faster? I'm very tech wise and I'm a programmer so I probably won't have any trouble adjusting. But is it worth the hassle?

Newbie to Linux commands/administration?
I am new to Linux. I am trying to teach myself linux administration, I am reading the book shell scripting by Todd Meadors, one of the questions at the end of the chapter has me a little puzzled. The question is to issue the command to display a message indicating a file named cactus.dat was removed only if the command to remove it succeeds. Can anyone help me out. Thanks in advance
Linux keeps asking me what my user password is.. but i deleted it so there is none..?
im running ubuntu on my netbook. love it. buuuuttt i deleted my user password so my bf could use my computer. i made him a user profile too, and neither of them are password locked. however when i try to install uninstall programs or make changes to my computer, it asks me for my user password. i put in my old one, nothing, left it blank and still nothing. put in the root password, and nothing.i went into system restore mode, did the whole unmount remount all that, it asked me to make a new user password, so i was like cool BUT when i tried to type anything when they asked me for my new password, it wouldnt let me type anything there was nothing so i hit enter, it asked me to retype the nothing.. omg so finally i exit cause it said the passwords didnt match or it was the same password or something like that. oh dear, someone help.. i am having n00b issues..
